Sunflowers & Pin Wheels Crayola & Embroidery Class



Below are the tasks that you must have complete before class:

1. Prewash your background fabric
2. Cut background for block 18” x 18”
3. Crease by folding in half and half again to find center.
4. Pattern has + in center to match creases. (DON’T Trace)
5. Line fabric crease up with pattern cross. Using a Brown 01 Pigma Pen trace the pattern on the right side of the fabric.
6. Pour your box of crayons on the table and put back in the little boxes in color families: red with reds, blue with blues etc. This makes it
easy to find the colors needed.
7. Pull the colors for the block and put in a ziplok bag.

  • Box of 96 Crayola Crayons: Dandelion, Yellow, Yellow Orange, Orange, RedrOrange, Sepia, Chestnut, Brown, Block, Inchworm, Granny Smith Apple, Asparagus, Oilive Green, Forest Green, Salmon
  • Pencil sharpener with large hole & catcher
  • Poster Tak (color eraser) Sample (Provided)
  • A few sheets of regular copy paper (Provided)
  • Brown Micron Pigma Pen .01 or Gelly Roll Pen
  • Frixion Pen (used to draw finished size of block)
  • DMC Embroidery Floss: (V=variegated) 94v,108v,114v,310,938
  • Patchwork Coloring Board $25 or/and can use in class
  • Hot Dry Iron to heat set colors (provided)
  • Pin Cushion
  • Spring Tension 5” Embroidery Hoop
  • Embroidery Scissors
  • Embroidery Needles (I like Size 8 for easy threading)
  • Pocket Guide to Embroidery Stitches by Leisure Arts #56019

Note* All materials, tools, and notions can be purchased in shop on the day of class at 10% offIf supplies are needed make sure you arrive in class early so that you have enough time to shop.

A minimum of 4 students is required for this class to meet. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund or you can be rescheduled to a later class.


Instructor: Sharon Wilhem
Instructor Bio: Sharon Wilhelm has been teaching at various shops and workshops at quilters' guilds throughout Texas. Many of the classes she teaches are from her original designs, but also a wide range of commercial patterns as well. She loves to teach anything pertaining to quilting, applique, hand quilting, and handwork i.e. Crayola coloring on fabric, hand embroidery and punch needle. She's well know in the quilting community and we're excited to have her teaching classes right here at Hoops and Needles.
