Quilting 101
This is a 12 hr class broken up into 3-hour sessions over either 4 days. This class is for individuals wanting to learn quilting from the very beginning. NO PREVIOUS QUILTING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY, but students should know the basics of the sewing machine. If not please, register here for our Sewing Maching Basics class.
Each session is 3 hours long, and students will learn the following in each session:
Part 1 = 3 hrs
- To read a pattern
- To properly use a rotary cutter
- How to use the cutting mat and ruler for precision cutting
- How to press correctly
- Color layouts to compliment the pattern
- Making the blocks
- How to sew pieces together accurately, and assemble the quilt top from the blocks previously created
- How to machine quilt their blanket
- How to properly bind and finish their quilt
Materials Needed: (*Note all supplies purchased day of class in shop are 10% off)
- 10 Fat Quarters
- 1/2 yard of binding
- The Busy Bee pattern by Villa Rosa
- Sewing Machine
- Needles
- Empty bobbins
- Thread
- Snips
- 45mm rotary cutter
- Rotary cutting mat
- Long quilting ruler
- 1/4" presser foot
- Long straight quilting pins
- Fabric marking pen or pencil
Note* All materials, tools, and notions can be purchased in shop on the day of class at 10% off. If supplies are needed make sure you arrive in class early so that you have enough time to shop.
A minimum of 2 students is required for this class to meet. If a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund or you can be rescheduled to a later class.

| Skill Details: | You must know the basics of the sewing machine. How to thread it, wind the bobbin, and comfortably sew in a straight line. If you're not comfortable with these skills then please register for our Sewing Machine Basics class. |
| Requirements: | Students should be ages 16+, and must bring their machine and all tools and notions to class as well as all materials needed. The materials are: 10 Fat Quarters, and 1/2 yard of binding. |

| Instructor Bio: | Matthew Modesitt, affectionately known as our analytical quilter, crunches numbers by day and creates beautiful quilts by night. As an experienced quilter, he is dedicated to helping students build strong skills and creative confidence. He instructions are clear, approachable, and his techniques make quilting accessible for all skill levels. His classes focus on learning and enjoying the process as much as the finished quilt. |
